Addicted to Food

I had a "Ah ha" moment this weekend (to quote Oprah) while having a conversation with my hubby.  His comment to me was "You are with food the way that I am with nicotine, addicted."  I think that I finally realized that he is right.  My life revolves around food.  I crave food, reward with food, talk about food, even search for food on pinterest.  I have to find a way of changing this addiction.  I need to become immune to its yumminess and its draw.

Do you think that you might be addicted to food?  Take this quiz it might be the answer.  After taking this quiz and reading a little more on the subject I have learned that too much sugar and processed carbs is part of the reason for my addiction.  It makes sense really.  Although I have been trying to cut back on everything processed over the last couple of weeks, being part of a busy family makes that hard.  Of course once you step off that slippery slop and have something like pizza for dinner (even though paired with a yummy salad), it is easy to keep falling down and really want that cheeseburger or french fries.  It is all about discipline and control. Two things I am still learning to do.

Until then I will continue to try hard. I will keep to my fruits and veggies, whole grains, low fat proteins, and lots of water.  All that will be combined with my cardio workouts, my strength training and my positive thinking.

Weekend Workouts

I had high hopes of getting a nice jog in or even a good walk with the kiddos since the weather was gorgeous but instead we worked!  Saturday we helped my mom with her sprinklers which required a bunch of digging with a shovel and by hand. A bunch of squating and walking so I figured that was a good workout.  Paul and I also picked up 15 bags on concrete for our Sunday plans.  Those are not light people.  I know that I burned some calories throwing those in the truck.

Yesterday was a day of pouring concrete.  We were able to get one step closer to getting our front porch completed.  I cannot wait to see the finished product.  My "workout" included more digging, pulling tree roots (BIG ONES), tamping the dirt with a 20 lb tamper, lugging 80lb bags of concrete, and a lot of walking.  It felt good to work outside and get some stuff accomplished.

Funny enough I didn't log this information into My Fitness Pal as calories burned.  I am sure that moving 80lb bags of concrete is not on the strength exercise list. ;)

Spin Class

Before last week I had one attended on spin class, well actually two but they were back to back and an hour total so I consider that one.  I really enjoyed the class and felt like I get a really good workout from it.  So I decided that last week since I was starting my healthy lifestyle journey again that I would attend a spin class.  There is new gym down the street from work and we have been working with them to set something up for the employees of the City and I thought what better way to show my fellow employees that I was serious than to start attending the classes.

This was going to be an hour long class.  I didn't make it that far!  After about 45 minutes I was so dizzy and nauseous that I had to get off the bike.  Apparently dumb dumb here forgot how much food I needed to it in order to exude that much energy at one time.  I felt so awesome through minute 30 and 35 but when I hit 40 I was dying!  My body was giving me all the signs that I needed to excuse myself from the cycle and sit down!  I was happy that I did and not at all upset that I didn't make it to the end but I promised myself that I would be back.

Today is that day.  I will return to Cycle Tripz and again try the hour long class.  I am looking forward to it.  I have planned my meals out for today and I should be plenty fueled to complete the class.  So here's to another try, to not giving up, to completing this little goal and in the process making myself feel 100% better.

Tears

To say that I am having a hard time is the least that I could say about my restart into my healthy lifestyle.  After the holidays and the stress of being a person down in our department at work I am just fighting with the food that I am eating.  I was in tears this morning while getting off the scale and into the shower.  I am just sad.

Every day is a new day.  I will begin again...  TODAY!

My new quote that I have swiped with help me to motivate:

"The sweat is nothing compared to the tears."

From now on, I will not the one crying!

Pinterest

Several months ago I received an invite to be a part of Pinterst.  I LOVE that site.  It is chalk full of great information about EVERYTHING.

Lately I have been using it to get some great information about my fitness goals.  Motivational sayings to keep me smiling and remembering what the big picture is.

Also great blog/internet sites with some additional information on workout routines designed to target the areas that I want to focus on.

Bike Doctor

I am so excited to say that my bike is finally going to the Doctor today, The Frame Doctor.  Joey is going to do his magic to fix the boo boo on the top tube of my bike.  I have been jonesing to get back on my bike for weeks but due to this minor crisis I haven't been able too.  Once my baby returns from the doctor healed I will begin the training for the Tour de Cure.  I am not sure as of yet what that distance will be (30 or 60)  but I should be there.

BIG SMILES all around!  Here's too a good season on two wheels.

Food Choices

Another thing that has really suffered during the whole "falling off the wagon" would be my food choices.  Awful stuff.  I went from planning a weeks worth of healthy fresh foods to grabbing something on the way home from work.  Both expensive and not good for any of us.

This morning I was so happy to pack up a whole weeks work of lunches and snacks for the week.  I will not need to go out for food!  Save money and calories.  Bonus!

Today's lunch consisted of a turkey and cheese wrap, with lo-cal low-fat yogurt ranch dressing and lots of romaine lettuce, wrapped with a yummy spinach wrap.  Along side a cup of far free strawberry yogurt and a clementine.  (although have to admit while typing this, i am full after my wrap and yogurt so I think that clementine is going to have to wait.)

I did have my first oopsy of my new program.  After packing up all my stuff this morning I realized AFTER I got to work that I forgot my workout pants.  WTG!  So I am going to have to forgo the gym during lunch today and instead partake is some other activity.  Either a nice walk this afternoon or one of the videos that I have saved on my netflix.  We shall see.  :)

Day 1. Again.

May 17, 2010 - "It is the easiest place to start. Day one.

What does that mean to me? The start of a new me. The start of something I have always wanted to do. The start of my goal to a healthier and happier person."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I posted this almost 2 years ago.  It was an awesome journey that I took in those 4 months.  I felt better and looked better than I had ever in my lifetime.  I found time for myself without making the time with my family suffer and it was amazing.
Since that time things have reverted back.  I no longer take the extra hour for myself.  I am tired and grumpy.  I just don't like it.
Today is a new day, Day 1.  Wish me luck.
